Tulsa, situated in Tornado Alley, ranks as America’s 47th largest city, with a population of around 389,625. The weather can get quite severe in Tulsa as it is on the Arkansas River at the edge of the Ozark Mountains. During the 20th century it was known as “Oil Capital of the World,” playing a large role in America’s oil industry. Musically the city is known for its Western Swing music. The economy’s emphasis has moved however, from oil to telecommunications, finance, aviation, energy and technology.
