Malaysia

Malaysia is one of the fastest growing countries in Asia.  Many businesses are exploring ways to tap into Malaysia’s huge business market, both for its resources and as a gateway into the larger ASEAN market.

Malaysia has a population of about 25 million people, and a GDP of $313 billion.  Their GDP real growth rate is about 6%.  Their major exports include petroleum, electronic equipment, palm oil, wood and wood products, rubber and textiles; while their imports focus on machinery and equipment, chemicals and food.  Natural resources in this location include tin, petroleum, timber, copper, iron ore, natural gas and bauxite.  Their main agricultural products are natural rubber, palm oil, rice, coconuts, pepper and timber.

Located in lower Southeast Asia, between Thailand to the North and Singapore and Indonesia to the South, Malaysia is the perfect entry point to the ASEAN market.  Their major trading partners at the moment include Singapore, Japan and the United States.
